I had the same thing, so I repaired the first one and double stitched the others. They have all withstood Mayhem and many other offroad night rides since, with no issues.
I find flashing mode to be very useful when road riding through / past traffic.
As a driver I hate bikes with flashing lights, it's irritating and distracting and as a rider I find them doubly so, I like a long constant beam of light in both situations.

The reason I like flashing lights is because they cannot be ignored.
When I'm in unlit areas and open countryside I ride with my light on so that I can see where I'm going. If I am on lit roads, I will put the light on its low setting. However, there are several very well lit stretches of road that are always busy, and at this time of year I am more often than not in those areas after dark and at between 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm, I know, terrible time to be on busy roads, but there are few other options. If the traffic is being stupid and aggressive, and on two roundabouts I have to cross, I put the light onto flash and point it at the ground just in front of the front wheel, as soon as I am through the roundabout or when I no longer feel threatened by punishment passes, drivers cutting back in too close or any number of other stupidities we have to put up with, then I put the light back to headlamp mode.
As a high milage car driver, I think flashing lights are much better at getting my attention, especially if they are of a modern brighter design. I like them as a driver, as I am made aware of a cyclist, quite often at this time of year, before I can actually see the rider and bike, and I like them as a cyclist because I know they make me more visible.

As a high mileage driver, which I was until recently, I hate flashing lights. I can't judge the distance as well as if on solid. I never tide with flash mode on. I commute to work now, and I've come close to deliberately taking out a biker with his Cree in flash mode

Joking apart, I have a cheapo £6 Cree Chinese via west Drayton flashy thing that's fine incoming and outgoing on flash on lit roads and alongside it the lezyne light sabre for off road and lanes on non flash.
And a bell.
