Yep...it's my auction.

Bought them from LID here, a couple years ago:
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53178

never used them, now when trying to sell them again, the black color has come into question by redwoodcanopy, but it was also brought up by a couple members on here. I bought them thinking they were the real deal; perhaps, I didn't know better, but would hate to sell them as such, if they aren't.

Will end auction tonight, and relist with new info, but was hoping some members on here could shed light on this matter, as redwoodcanopy sent me four messages on this crankset, but none provided sources for his finding:
"just heard that the guy that sold them to you anodized them, so not factory."

any help here, one way or the other, would be appreciated. Thanks 8)

Factory ano or not, they seem to have appreciated nicely :P

really? I paid 75 GBP plus 20 GBP for shipping. 95 GBP; the exchange rate was almost 2 to 1 back then, maybe a bit less, since I think it peaked in the pounds favor back in 2008. I might have paid $20 usd for shipping. it's been a couple years. So 75 gbp= approximately $140 usd, add $20 usd , and I paid about $150 to $160. I wish paypal kept records from a couple years ago.

Yea, so, about that appreciation :P

If you read the thread you will see that you did not purchase them from me.
This is really rather sad.

Oh, Lid, so sorry- I did it again. I meant Elite.
Just for the record:
I did not buy this set from Lid

Yeah, it appears I was had, just a bit (though I hesitate to blame label Elite- no need for that...perhaps he'll chime in and clear it up). It's been a couple years, so it's not like much can be done now. Apparently everyone is privy, except for me, to some info that Elite anodized these himself. Would love to see that thread; perhaps I should search. I just hate selling as it is :?

I'm about to revise my auction, and post new pics, with a much lower start price- they are still a great set of m730 cranks; maybe someone won't care about the black ano being after the fact. redwoodcanopy has apparently been very annoyed by my "garbage" cranks. The email exchanges between he and I would be good for a laugh, for some of you

:sigh:

on another, somewhat related, note:
I had these up for sale a year ago, for about a week, and there was a member on here (owner of many fine vintage mountain bikes) who was interested, but after I sent pics, I never heard back from him. This wasn't unusual behavior on his part, or else I would've taken a hint that something wasn't right with these cranks.

New pics coming, for further inspection, of course

nah, Nate, I have no issue with you. I must come across a bit high strung here on the forums, sometimes.

I'm good 8)
going to edit this auction, and take a loss on this part...oh well; live and learn, cliche, cliche, etc,etc...

4 emails. Yes, the first was a question (as shown in the auction Q&A), 1 was a link to a picture of the genuine article by Shimano, and the other 2 were responses to you about the cranks. And yes one of my emails said the cranks looked like "garbage refurbs". Sorry if that was a little harsh, but I do think they look fairly bad (maybe it's just the pics) and you weren't exactly a bowl of cherries with your responses either.

Either way, it's not that big of a deal there, mate. Sorry to knock the petals off your daisy.
