but was hoping some members on here could shed light on this matter, as redwoodcanopy sent me four messages on this crankset, but none provided sources for his finding:
"just heard that the guy that sold them to you anodized them, so not factory."

any help here, one way or the other, would be appreciated. Thanks 8)

4 emails. Yes, the first was a question (as shown in the auction Q&A), 1 was a link to a picture of the genuine article by Shimano, and the other 2 were responses to you about the cranks. And yes one of my emails said the cranks looked like "garbage refurbs". Sorry if that was a little harsh, but I do think they look fairly bad (maybe it's just the pics) and you weren't exactly a bowl of cherries with your responses either.

Either way, it's not that big of a deal there, mate. Sorry to knock the petals off your daisy.

I can post the email exchange, and let others decide for themselves, as to their tone.
No pedals knocked off; I remain fresh as a daisy.
In the last email I wrote back to you, I stated I would not open any subsequent emails from you; they would simply be deleted. So you made an account here, and posted. Not a big deal, indeed.

Welcome to the site

back to the main subject, the cranks, I received a PM this morning from Elite. He states that while he doesn't remember specifically anodizing this set, he did have "hundreds" of parts anodized, and this very well may have been one of them. I'll take that as a yes. He also offered to refund me, which I politely declined since it's not fair to him, for me to return them this long after the fact- I should've done my homework, better than I did. Just wanted to let people know that he offered to make it right.

Now that I know what I know, I have canceled the auction. I'll relist with fresh pics, and a clear description that these were anodized, aftermarket. The bidding will start at $50 usd; substantially lower than what I paid. If they don't sell, I'll throw them back in the box, and back in the bin.

Well, glad that's settled...I think :P

If you should succeed in identifying them, take heed, less they find you, and ridicule your inferior old mountain bikes and parts. Though you might never know this is occurring, since most of their ridicule and cavorting takes place in a hidden virtual cabin, deep in the cyber woods. They are masters of collecting and riding old mountain bikes, so thread lightly as you ask questions or make suggestions.
