Best First Retrobike?

As all have said, buy something that floats your boat.

FWIW; Ebay is full of overpriced chancers. Gumtree is a better bet if you're careful. The classified ads here are full of bargain bikes too.

For less than £100... Konas, Marins, Dynatech <<< you'll get a real nice bike for less than a ton. Treks are always dead cheap, as are Jamis, saracens, and specialized.

Patience is your friend...

Thanks, looks like I'm in the waiting game now, as previously mentioned it'll be around a year before I can actually consider buying one so I have plenty time to look at my options. eBay isn't cheap but I've seen some nice opportunities come and go over the last few months where the main problem is collection and funds. I literally have £0 to spend at the moment so I'll have to spend the time it takes to save up trying to convince my family that there is space for another bike...

Could do a lot worse for £70 delivered, £50 collect.

I've spent a lot of time kicking myself about this one... I'd love a Dynatech but I'm currently still not allowed another bike  I would raid the emergency stash of cash but I'd have nowhere to put it except in my bedroom, which is already occupied by my current build  lovely bike though and decent deal, this is basically what I'm looking for
