bad crashes?

Worst injury sustained whilst riding was both to my body and my pride

Picture, if you will, a glorious ride with some mates that had culminated in a summer evening visit to a beverage establishment – upon returning home from said establishment, we all rather childishly thought it appropriate to pull moonies whilst riding along a particularly fast and somewhat gravelly track (frequented by dog walkers etc.). One slightly erratic 4-legged friend later and all of us end up in a large pile on the ground – I, myself, managed to slide approx 5 metres one my bare arse and the resulting gravel rash was sooo painful I spent much of the remaining ride still with my shorts pulled down to alleviate the pain.

Not so sure I'd do that nowadays

Bloodiest one was on a fast bit of semi-urban singletrack. Lost it coming round a corner, went flying off and cooker cuttered a nice lump out of my shin on a fencing pole.

Pole had the circle of flesh sitting inside it afterwards. I had a bit hole down to the shin bone which was pouring with blood. Nice...

Bike had wedged itself into the fence - trashed bars, levers and lots of scratches...

accident 1:sprinting on raleigh rsw at 30 mph...fell off....skiddedon elbows for 20 feet using hands and elbows to slow me down.skin grafts, numb hands and 1 very broken bike.
accident 2: rear light was catching spokes as i rode so i bend round to remove light and jam whole hand in wheel.dislocated all my fingers and all the nails were bleeding.(the fingers bent all the way round and ripped some spokes and bent a heavy duty steel rim
accident 3: off road biking in fritton woods down hill.i hit a sandpatch and fall 30 feet down hill upside down landing on my head.heard my neck go crack(loudly)then the bike landing on me afterwards took most of the skin on my right calf off ,i have a chainring scar down to the bone for that one.it took 6 months before i could put my own shirt on again.
accident 4:decided to forget to look when riding across a very busy 6 lane road one day and got side swiped at 50 mph by a very large rover.i used my head to block that one and broke the whole front end of the car including the windscreen and roof as i flew through the air with the greatest of ease.lost a whole year of memories for that one.

my job you ask>>> ima cycling profficiency officer and teach kids how to ride properly. :P :P

psi also am going to be teaching kids how to mountain bike in thetford forest this summer as well for norfolk const.

My biking injuries have been a broken elbow, fractured heel, lots of gouges in calves, shin and knees.
A nice scar running from the top of my little finger to my elbow, lots of blood that one (done the same time a the heel fracture and not elbow break :? ).
The back of my right hand has scars all over it too, more blood. I knew I should've worn gloves

My most recent serious crash was a broken collarbone and some bloody shin scrapes coming down a hill in Banchory (Scotland). Classic endo after catching a hockeystick sized branch with my front wheel and forks.

Once I found out I could still breathe the pain was bearable. But then we realised we were out of cell phone range and way off-road, so I ended up riding 2 miles or so one-handed to get a signal/access point.

Notably I was on a business trip and went for an after meeting ride with a buddy from work. So next day I had to call in that I wasn't going to make it to the office for being in hospital after a Bike crash. Nice one...

I've had quite a few good ones to mention.... :)

1. Stitches in forehead from face-plant on concrete @ speed.
2. Torn ligaments/tendon strain in right wrist from over the bars job (hit huge unseen rock whilst pelting it in the dark)
3. Still got grit in my chin from faceplant on cinder track when the front wheel of my mates bike that i was riding left the forks when going over a jump.
4. Broken right wrist and ruptured right Acromio-Clavicular Joint (Shoulder) after major off @ Pace jump park in Dalby, North Yorkshire. That happened in Jan this year.....first real day back @ work tomorrow!!

Many other less major incidents and a broken right elbow coming off a moped, but that ain't mountain bikes, even if it has 2 wheels.....

Mate of mine also knocked himself unconscious and had a fit after heavy face plant coming off north shore....That was scary...CT scan showed no major damage, but he still can't remember much of that day....

Take care out there guys and girls.....u enjoy it more when ur able to stay on, and not stuck @ home dreaming of the trails with broken limbs...
