BACK TO ORIGINAL BUILD 1994 Roberts DOGSBOLX

Dogsbolx94

Dirt Disciple
This summer I managed to change a few items to get my Roberts DOGSBOLX back to the exact specifications as I built it June 1994 plus one upgrade. If you search my username you will see my previous posts.
Over the years my original grey Specialized Umma Gumma tyres rotted away. I managed to score a pair of NoS grey Specialized Umma Gumma More Exreme / S tyres to replace them. I also lost my original silver X-lite stubbi bar ends and found a NoS pair on e-bay. Finally, back in 1994 I wanted a pair of titanium Suntour Superbe Pro pedals in keeping with my build specification; wherever possible all steel nuts, bolts, bottom bracket, pedal spindles, ect had to be replaced with titanium equivalents. I never found any so I bought the steel spindled Superbe version instead. This summer I managed to find a pair of NoS Titanium Superbe Pro pedals on ebay in Japan. My bike is now exactly back to its original build including the titanium pedal upgrade I wanted back then.

I have those pedals. Love them. Btw... that´s a short top tube, tall BB and tight wheelbase. Interesting. I would like to know it would compare riding wise w a Yo Eddy or Ibis mojo.
I have long legs for my height so an off the peg bike would have a top tube which is too long for me hence going for a custom frame. It rides extremely well. It has a nice rigid frame and steers quickly. Here is the original build sheet written by Chas Roberts who measured me. I wanted them to build a complete frame with front forks (they supplied Tange Superlight forks) and a custom handlebar stem, (length and rise based on my body measurements). The build sheet has the tube set, geometry, tube lengths and build instructions. Winston Vaz built the frame and handlebar stem.

Quite nice built. This is the reason why we still like this 90s bicycles.

When I see videos about retro bicycles, sometimes I think people is lost or they are in a hurry like the videos of GMBN (I mention this channel because the guy do a good job reviewing retro stuff), they try to find a cool bicycle but always are saying the cons and pros ...It is not necesary, retro stuff is very specific and each one has their preferences, the thing is to know what we whant and that is not easy. Whe love riding bicycles and that is all, but if they are like this one, we are in Heaven.🙂 👍

Sound like a retro taliban, but no. I love riding my retro and modern bicycles 😌

Wow that thing is a beautiful steed, I dream of a custom built bike but cannot justify it without a massive uplift in my hours in the saddle! that really looks totally class , love history in ownership too, love telling people ive had my humble 95 kileaua since i was 16 years of age!

I've dug my old DB out of the garage after 25 years. I might restore the bike for my son. She's needs some work!

Nice! If you decide on the restoration start yourself a new thread so people can follow the progress
