I asked Roberts to supply the lightest forks available with curved blades. They chose Tange superlight mountain bike forks. Tange’s lightest rigid fork had butted chromoly blades and very strong investment cast dropouts.

I had that fork on a Trek 8700. Very nice indeed.

Terrific story and great to hear about long ownership, from new. Absolutely love the look of that - and definitely reminds me I need to put mine on a diet.
I think I'll be 35 years into ownership next year and it's never being moved on...

The guy from Zero was Declan Hicks. I used to ride with the Motosport lot around 1990/91 so we may well have met. I forget most of the names but there was of course the infamous James Tatlow. Good choice of colour on the Renault Pearl white. Funnily enough I still have one in that exact colour, owned it since about 1996.

Thanks for the reminding me it was Declan Hicks. I also remember James Tatlow. I may be wrong but if James is now fitting bathrooms and kitchens then he did mine a few years back. We would reminisce about Smithbrook kilns mountain bike shop during his lunch breaks. He did an amazing job refitting two new bathrooms with incredible eye for detail and perfection.
