ATX 990 Giant rebuild - long travel plates? rear disc mount?

I have dusted of my ATX 990 frame which is still in great condition and has been stored for at least 14 years.

I was going to sell it but I'm tempted to rebuild it instead and fancy extending the travel, has anyone got some of the long travel plates for sale or know where i can get them? i think goldtech used to make them? Also is the rock shox coil deluxe shock ok for the 5" or would this need changing?

I also wondered about a rear disc brake mount, has anyone ever made one for the ATX 990?

Thanks for any input/advice :D

It's sad but us giant owners are not loved by most here  I'd love to see photos of the frame and some details of what you plan

I like them!

You could definately get extra plates for travel but not sure who made them. Try a wanted ad?

With a more modern shock sure the travel would be better, but even if not, dust it off and have a ride or two and see if you can rekindle the magic. They dont fetch top dollar so would be a shame to part with it without giving it another chance.

I'd skip the plates, tbh. They massively overleveraged the shock -- yes, you got more travel but also you blew through it quickly, and the rebound damping struggled to keep up coming back the other way. You could revalve (or replace) the shock to make it work better, but it's getting into the realms of more trouble than it's worth IMHO :)

Yeh, im going to build it up with some old & new parts and see how it rides, will post some pics before and after, would rather get some fun out of it rather than sell it for a few quid, Ive got some nice Pace RC 35 forks which are currently on my ball burnished Zaskar but I might get a set of 4" travel forks and see how it rides with the current rear travel, thanks for comments
