“New” headset fitted... original was rusty and worn so I used the crown race from the original with a little used scrap pile special (which had a broken crown race...) Very satisfying.
New ball races (£2.25) and fresh grease. Total spend so far £7.25
Respaced some wheels to fit the 130mm back end. It looks nice, I think. Sloping top tube!
Seeing as this has horizontal dropouts I had hatched a plan to build this as a single speed. Slightly disappointed that tyre clearance is tight even with the wheel pushed right back, so not sure it’s going to work. Might try some skinnier tyres and see if it’s feasible.
Plenty* of clearance with the axle at the end of the dropouts, but not enough to move the wheel back and forth and adjust chain tension if set up as single speed. Could use a chain tensioner obvs, but that kind of defeats the object of having horizontal dropouts.
To be honest the dropouts are pretty short anyway, so I think perhaps that I’ll shelve the ss idea and build it in period(ish) spec. Shame, it’s nice when a plan works out...
If the wheel looks off it’s the angle of the camera. I built it myself. Saying that I did re-dish and true it at midnight last night in a slightly dark garage after a couple of beers so I should probably put it in the stand again...
