Anyone into classic cars

We have something in common then @d8mok as I worked for Ford from 2000 to 2018. Wonder if our paths crossed.

I'm currently falling down a 911SC shaped rabbit hole as I plan a "birth year" car purchase. Passed one up for 12k about ten years ago. Idiot.

2002 to 2021 for me so similar times. When I say Ford I mean at a dealer level rather than manufacturer.

It was a great era to work for Ford. Now I’m not so sure as the product is limited now.

I was at Dunton main site from 1990-2001, and then 2007-2012. Hiatus was being part of the Visteon schism. Second stint was in powertrain controls, but had a lot of interaction with the transit electrical team in the newer wing of the main building.

Aaah visteon…

I did spells at Southampton, Daventry, Warley, Dunton and Dagenham. I was Dunton in 2007/8 and again around 2017 with PTME

Happier times in retrospect than they probably were. Great company to work for but beyond arrogant and no surprise they’ll be little than a national sales company reasonably soon :(

Sounds like you did the grand tour, only missed out on Bridgend!

I was always Dunton based, though visited Southampton, Warley, Dagenham in the UK, along with Genk, Merkenich, Neihl and various sites in Dearborn/Detroit on trips.

I think they found them selves trapped with the upper end pushing down (BMW/Mercedes/Audi) moving into C & B class cars and the far east pushing up (Kia/Hiyundai/etc) matching them for everything but price where they were beating them.

I suspect there will be even more pressure from China, though I expect some serious consolidation in number of manufacturers there over the next 2-5 years.
