Anyone cross-country with the mutt?

I think these 2 should be able to ease off to let me keep up ;)

And visibility shouldn't be an issue either . . .

I have been told not to take them till they are at least one otherwise it can damaged their hips and other joints .
Physical maturity is essential fella. . . a little dog matures faster than a biggun but I'd wait at least 12months too ;)

Only problem I can see with a beagle mix is that, being hounds, they tend to run off...
Of course that can be somewhat overcome with training and you may get the spaniel coming through stronger anyway..

Lot of fun ahead for you methinks. . . Spaniels rock!!

that is one thing I am worried about but at present he is 8 month old and he does cvome back to me pretty well when I let him off the lead . I always carry food with me and he know it .

He won't run off. He'll be having too much fun!
Gotta say that most dogs, faced with the prospect of their owner riding off into the sunset, will give chase.

It should even overcome that most typical of hound behaviours... doing their own thing ;)

My mate Kev used to cycle with his dog running along side
he also held the lead [hands tight on the bars]and the dog would help him on the hills.I swear this is true
He stopped this when the dog veered,he took avoiding action, and caught a bar end in a fence

It was over in seconds

I think its best you dont :?
Even if you dont do the dog-sled thing there may be a chance the pet could be seriously injured or killed .Slim but not one to take.

I always carry food with me and he know it .
Handy hint-
Use dry food and keep it in a small plastic container.Get him used to you shaking it when you want to give him the treat[dogs have special areas in their ears attuned to the treat sound  ]

Rattle it when you lose sight of him and he'll come racing back

My mate uses a 'walky dog' with his dalmation. It is a 25 quid seat post attachment. It holds the dog away from the bike and is spring loaded so it can't pull you off. Sounds like it wouldn't work but it certainly does with max and he is a big strong dog.

Is that your website chris? Dog certainly looks familiar

You flatter me.

Instructables is a website where people show how they've done stuff. I wrote that one, and yes, that's Lucky on the front page. Handsome, isn't he?

It works quite nicely, although I tend not to bother now. Lucky is showing his age a bit, he doesn't have the same need for walkies as he did as a youngster.
