Any help identifying this bike?

Retro Newbie
I have just purchased a retro racing bike. It seems to be in pretty good condition and looks like a good first time project.

My knowledge of bikes is not at all vast and all self taught. I am very happy with my purchase as it cost me peanuts, but would be interested to find out a bit more about its history.

On first glance, it would appear to be Campagnolo, but there is a mix of parts on the bike at present so I am not 100%. It has a Campagnolo headset and brake calipers, but Shimano brake levers and front mech. I cannot find any markings on the chainset. It appears to be a 6 speed screw-on cassette with a cheap looking 'Saute' rear derailleur. The down tube levers are 'Simplex'.

The frame itself appears well made and in good condition, there is no rust anywhere, but it needs a good clean. I cannot find any identifying markings other than the number '011047' under the bottom bracket.

The wheels appear true and are fitted with 700 x 25 Michelin Select tyres. I don't know what the rims are as the stickers have been removed, but it has a nice looking set of Pelissier hubs which look possibly high end and seem to spin forever.

I would really appreciate any help with this.

The components on the bike look quite nice, campagnolo headset by the looks of it.

The rear derailleur is a Shimano Sante, a seemingly short lived model from the early 1990s. There is a bit of a cult around them. Nice article here:

The frame looks like it might be from the earlier 1980s, because the cables are routed over the bottom bracket. That is just a guess though.

Thanks Johnny,

I keep changing my mind on what to do with it. I think a good clean, service, new cables, handlebar tape and a new (old) saddle would be a start. Need to see if the tyres hold any air too

After that, can't decide if it should be all Campag (the headset is very nice) or whether I can live with a mixed groupset? Singlespeed is an option too. Should keep me quiet for a bit anyway.

If anyone else has any thoughts on the frame I'd be really interested to hear from you.

A bit of a closer look and the chainset appears to be branded 'Thun' on on the rear of the crank arm.

Still haven't found anything to identify the frame.

Edit- Having looked at various pictures I'm wondering if its an early 80's Raleigh Road Ace?
