Any Doctors around?

Well I was doing my usual 15 miler back from work down the cut last night when half way through the journey I woke up to find myself lying in a crumpled heap on the floor with a small cut to my eye and a sore shoulder..

Obviously this isn't normal, it's happened once before around 4 weeks ago strangely on the exact same patch of canal but I managed to stop the bike as I just felt dizzy!

This time though "bang" out like a light, what was weird is I took a slug of water sat down for 2 minutes and carried on as normal like nothing had happened........

I have only had this happen on the bike and not when I'm down the gym which I find alot more sapping so I'm ruling out blood/sugar...The only thing I will admit to is it was very hot yesterday and I didn't drink any water..is this a possible answer...

And yes before you ask I will be going to the doctors..bloody lucky I fell to the right and not the left!

Agreed, once was an odditty, twice within a few weeks well worth a medical visit.

not a doctor so please don't think this is doom mongering but i know of 2 people who had car crashes and said the exact same thing. no sleepyness, nothing just black then waking up in a ditch / tree.

in both cases this was in older gents (one 61 year old and one 68 year old) but both ended up being diagnosed as heart issues (one was fitted with a pacemaker, the other is on a daily drug course to manage it.)

it simply isn't worth ignoring something like this... mr muamba (spelling) should be warning enough that the fittest people can be knocked down with no warning at all.

I hope it turns out to be something trivial (such as dehydration) but its just not worth messing about. get it checked.

+1 for jax's post. Dad was the same, had pacemaker fitted no probs after that. It was explained something like the body shuts down when not enough oxygen is supplied in the correct quantities to the brain (it stops your muscles using what little oxygen there is). The op was easy - local anasthetic for about 1/2 hour. went home next day.

Watch out for those crumpled heaps - I've fallen in a few in my time

Seriously though, get it checked out if something similar has happened before.

Low blood pressure perhaps ? sudden drop could cause this and explain the dizzy feeling. try elevating your legs if you feel dizzy again, though if you black out its no use.

Be interested to know once when you get to the bottom of it, good luck

Are there any trees that can cast a shadow over that path? If so, you might want to consider getting tested for epilepsy.

I know a guy who used to get an epileptic attack every time he passed a certain spot, except during winter months. Turns out the flickering of the sunlight in between the trees' leaves triggered it.

Yeah, I wondered about that too as I have heard a few losing it due to stroboscopic effect, even car drivers losing it down avenues of trees. And it needn't be epilepsy when it happens.

.

Just an update regarding this,

I was travelling down the same stretch last night and lo and behold what do I see, some poor fecker holding onto the side of the canal with blood pissing out of his head.

Sounds like he had exactly the same thing happen to him as happened to me, unfortunately he ended in the canal not on the other side.

Fished his bike out and checked his head then called the abmo service, turns out he was a copper and his first question was "I was just cycling down the canal and the next thing I know ....what the fook happened?"

Probably coincidence but strange to have the same thing happen to two different people on the same stretch.

The Tipton Triangle as I'm now calling it. I've actually started avoiding that stretch of the canal and then rejoining later on, strangely enough since doing that I've had no issues at all. Only reason I was down there again was because it was so nice yesterday.
