looking for a defender and found a mint v8 lpg which has caught my eye.

Now if a 2.5 Diesal does 27-30 mpg (200 tdi) and a V8 on gas does 12-15 mpg but at half the price on fuel

Does that work out the same on running costs? :? There is no reason why the V8 should be looked upon as costing more to run?

Or have I been eating to much toblerone this afternoon?

That will work out the same.

Example.

2.5 Diesal - 27-30 mpg, Fuel @ 2p
V8 LPG - 12-15 mpg, Fuel @ 1p X 2 = 24-30 mpg, Fuel @ 2p

The V8 is much better. If it's a choice between gas V8 or diseasel, definitely go for the V8. The diesel is just smaller but with forced induction strapped on the front. The V8 is much more understressed, especially for towing.

(so I've heard, YMMV...)

Service costs will likely be more - not necessarily oodles more, but more all the same.

Likely to be more oil in the sump, more plugs and leads, that sort of thing.

v8 v8 v8 v8

i doubt service costs will be higher and when the turbo blows it'll cost sh*t
loads more

possibly more oil in the sump? but whats there will last longer when running on lpg, it burns cleaner and there is less residue/polution to spoil the oil and block the filters, the main exspence will the initial instal costs and then the maintenance of the ignition system! lpg is a bitch to burn! and needs a tip top condition ignition system, mind you I only ever swapped out the plugs and leads on my VR6 3 times in 98k+ miles :)
DIY lpg conversions on the V8 are fairly easy to do, my mate ran three of his on single port induction systems from these guys and all of his V8 rangies were used for off road racing :)
