another '20 years ago' style thread

Still got my old Sony WM-106 with the wind-in headphones, it came with a similar battery to that Panasonic and would also run on one AA. It was still working the last time I tried it although I think the belt was a bit tired, the box is looking a bit battered too!

I've got 'stuff'...

I had a similar, possibly later version of that. Same rechargeable battery and optional clip-on AA. Mine was more compact and had a remote control on the head-phone lead. It even came with a travel case for all the bits. I remember saving over £100 for it and I used it until it literally fell to pieces.

I had one, too. Full logic control, metal case, inline remote (think the panasonic used beeps), same rechargable battery and charger as in the picture.

Also and external AA battery pack that screwed into the case.

The main unit looked slimmer than the picture, and was a hard metal case. Still got it somewhere. And similar Aiwa models (metal case, logic control - had the all black one, then later metallic coloured one). And about 5 minidisk players, too.

Pix of my aforementioned - LGF, I'll take you up on the offer to have the TCS refurbished... PM me your address and I'll package the old girl up...

Not quite 20 years ago but about 18 or 19 years ago I purchased a Panasonic RQ-V500, it could stil be kicking around the house somewhere, last time I used it (about 5 years ago) it was working and I used it to transfer some old mix tapes to my PC for MP3'ing.
IT was about the same price as the S15 but had a plastic case and took 2 x AA's instead of a rechargable battery, it's party trick was the digital AM/FM Radio with presets which I loved. The downside was that if the batteries were out (or went flat) for more than 30 seconds it lost it's settings.
It did see me nicely through about 3 years of college and then several holidays.

Carl.

In the Merchant navy the guys who work deep sea, on the big ships away from land for weeks, all used to have Sony 7600D's, or variations of. Excellent radios, can get the world service almost anywhere on earth and are light and small (for the standards of the day) and sturdy for suitcases!

One of these coupled with a battered mid '80s Samsonite Oyster and a scratched Seiko Divers automatic mark you out as a true 'old school' ship's officer.
(I have all three! )
