I'm enjoying this thread, the unrestrained venting - without a huge debate/battle happening afterward is kind of weird, refreshing and highly educational in terms of views all at the same time!

I might kick off 'a why I love' thread in the same vein, as a counterpoint...

To be fair, thats probably coz their now middle aged, and several stone fatter than 20 years ago when they first rode up that same hill

Cheap bolts and other fasteners.
New bike costs a fortune, much is said about its great design and the R&D behind it and then they bolt it together with cheap rubbish that strip threads, round, snap, corrode at the drop of a hat.
We retro bodgers spend more time removing crap old bolts etc than we spend doing up our bikes.
Good bolts etc please.
Yes I know i like rubbish cheapo bikes which of course have rubbish components but for the high end stuff I own, why are they fitted with Townsend/Apollo grade bolts ?

forum members who roll out their garage queeen yeti, cline, manitou etc etc holy grail of unicorn poo type bikes for BOTM, that they have posted on MTB forums around the world in the pursuit of adulation. then contribute nothing else to the forum. I find these bikes really yawn yawn. I have never wanted one of these bikes and never will. the true spirit of retrobike rides round the woods on kona's marins saracens etc

so called boutique parts that dont work very well and break again never wanted these things.

bickering and fighting on this site when there is just no need for it.
