Most of you know how difficult it can be to hunt down decent amberwalls these days...even on eBay. So I'm happy to have had a great win that I want to share!
Since I recently decided that I plan to restore my 1990 Specialized Hardrock, I started looking for some amberwalls, and I was pleased to find two NOS Specialized tires...new, never mounted; and they are the "Hardrock'r" model, no less. (I wasn't really picky about the tread pattern, since my Hardrock is my urban singlespeed, mostly for casual riding--the fact that the model name matches is just a happy coincidence.)
Since the two tires were in separate auctions only a few seconds apart, I had to time things carefully, and I am pleased that I ended up with both tires for only $35.49 USD, or £22 -- and that's including postage!
The eBay photos are all I have for now, and they are only so-so, but I attached one below.
Now, here's the zinger...while I was watching/purchasing these, the same seller also had another pair of Panaracer Smoke amberwalls...one of them sold for £75, the other sold for £53...with shipping, the pair sold for £137!!
I feel better paying £22 for my pair.
