97 Zaskar - What do you think?

I'm thinking about using early Fox forks for my new '96 project.
How does this feel? Is the geometrie changed? How are the Fox in general?

They're plush and stiff. I like em but I haven't abused them properly yet.
Geometry is much better. Had some 100mm Marzocchi's on before and it was wrong. Plus the thought of extra strain on the head tube of a 13 yr old frame worried me.

Very nice.

I'd prefer risers but would be in the minority on that I'm sure.

But overall lovely.

Thanks coomber. Nice to hear from another Z fan. Amazed about how many 97 zaskars are in build progress on the forum. None look like mine though... It seems a syncros/judy/ball burnished is the oft travelled path.

Yeah there is a whole load of 97 zaskars - its weird isnt it?! Not many in red like mine either. Nice having something a bit different. Mine and yours couldnt be more different really! Singlespeed v geared. Flat v risers. Rigid v bounce!

Are you sure the forks are 80mm travel? They look quite long, more like 100mm? Was there a way to increase the travel on RLC80s? I'm wondering whether this has been done...?

Either way, they're lovely and the whole bike just looks like it would be SO much fun to ride!

Again, I think looks great! Fox is a great fork, no brainer here.

Who need a modern bike? It's a Zaskar, very capable retro.

My modded 96 Zaskar: Old Judy but 180mm rotor at front, Syncros FL stem, risers and other modern bits and boobs. Bike have done several tough and rough singletracks and still going strong. Just awaiting for rear disc brake adapter.

I have to say its a stunning looking bike. love the white, no more endlessly polishing and replacing decals cause the polishing has taken the top layer off (like the set I put on my 96 that gave up at the first wiff of polish). What do you think to how it rides with the "to long fork"? I have 100mm up front on my 96 and I love the way it rides. And the outline decals? A stroke of genius :) . This build is making me re-think my 96 zaskar.

Not the biggest fan of double discs with the use of adaptors to be honest. Prefer the original posters (trickylads) rim brakes, especially on the rear. Just looks better to me.

I know where your coming from. I built this bike at first cause i just had the parts kicking around and I only owned a intense m1. It was always going to the way of a modern frame but I decided not to cause this just makes me grin from ear to ear on singletrack. I have to admit my 92 with its xt u-brake looks better. the 96 is just my work horse. As for the brake adaptor I'll admit it looks awful but its the most robust option I could come up with.
