86 Fat Chance Kicker

Proto2000

Retro Guru
I bought this from a friend for a good price a few days ago. The paint is really rough and some rust overall but nothing that looks damaging to the frame/fork. I know many say it's only original once but looking at it like this makes me want to strip and refinish it, on the fence with that. It has a front wheel that looks to me to be a Bullseye hub there but the collars are knurled without grub screws holding them onto the axle. It does have sealed bearings, any guesses as to what it is? Also, is the tubing sticker original to Fats of this vintage?

Great score. I love patina so i would not repaint. Tubing stickers seem legit. Serial number should tell model year and size. Build and ride it asap. Then refine the details. A basic m730 would do it justice. BB can be sorted since it's a common issue w/ 80s Fats and the internet can provide the parts. Again... nice score

Thanks. I think I will keep the paint but did swap out the brakes, levers and shifters to M700 brakes/levers/front derailleur and Suntour shifters. The BB bearings I swapped in new ones for the guy who owned the bike before I bought it so already installed, one less thing to do. Looking for a decent priced Deer Head rear mech and a will check my wheels for a good rear candidate. Front wheel will stay but still not sure what hub that is, did some searches and came up zero. The saddle, seatpost, stem and bars were on the bike when I got it so will stay. I do have a bit of de-rusting on some of the chrome bits I will do later, mocking it up to see what I want to do with it...
