4 bikes to choose from...

Looking to build up a retro trail rider. Scrolling through craigslist has given me a list of 4 possibilities, wanted to see if you could sway me one way or another.

$130 - 1989 Schwinn High Sierra (claimed 1989, i think first year was 1990 though)
$100 - 1985 Scott Red and White (not sure of model, but has deore xt parts)
$55 - early '90's GT Talera
$175 - 1990 schwinn Impact

I really just need the frame and fork. Anything special about any of these bikes? appreciate the advice.

Of the brands only Schwinn does anything for me, but that's totally just a personal gut thing, not to misconstrued as actual advice!

Scott frames are really good riders and handle well.....but that is a bit early for a scott I thought

You can usually get a vague idea of the quality of the frame from the quality of the parts on it (if original). I don't think the Talera nor either of the Schwinns has ever been anywhere near having any XT on them.

Go for the GT.

For the money you cant go wrong. It'll be a good solid frame, and will definately put a smile on your face.

Thanks.. I think I'll go for the GT. I have an early 90's GT Timberline that I enjoy so it'd be nice for it to have a friend.

I am also considering the Scott though, maybe I'll get both. The Scott is a 1986 actually, i made a typo above, and that was the very first year that Scott made MTB's. That makes it sort of a collectors item I suppose.

The pics are all crap... low res small craigslist pics. Here is the Scott.
