3ttt bio arms aero bars question

Hi all

Just picked up a pair of these aero bars complete with clamps for a bit of fun (a fiver!) and to trial for longer distance touring.

Anybody with any experience with these know why the pads are designed with a springing system to push them into the air when not directly pressured?
There’s also a small white screw which I havent fiddled with yet if anybody can direct on it’s function too

Photo is from eBay but same model as mine

Many thanks

I had a similar pair of Profile brand in the 90's, supposed to give you enough bar space to ride on the tops. Rather defeated the object of trying to go faster, but for touring should be good.

These things are absolutely ridiculous fun, and for only a fiver too I can’t quite believe it.
I certainly feel much faster but I know I’m definitely not because my bike is fixed and I’m still going to be spinning out at the same speed but I think I might switch out my cog soon.

I can’t tell if it looks ridiculously stupid or cool in an 80s neo-futuristic way…certainly might be both.

Not set them up properly or anything but even just coming to the gym I feel they’ll be good for long distance comfort. Only thing is the noise of the pads rattling about is really quite annoying when they’re not in use.

Please excuse the diabolical set up

Let me reassure you that the vert coolest cloth-cap and moustache wearing bikepackers in the Bristol area are all fitting tribars or barends in the central area of their swoopy hipsterbars!

Mocha-latte with peamilk anyone?😉

My father actually looked gobsmacked when I whipped them out of my bag and asked what on earth did I buy these for.

Exactly on cue my response was “these… these are the latest big thing in long distance touring…”

I can confirm he was not at all sold on them but that’s ok!
