Finally found a way to get some decent wheels on this. My Bianchi has had a set of CK disc hubs w/snowflake wheels. Not a very sensible choice front and rear, but that's the way I got them, ave they're still going strong after who knows how many years.
Found a non disc set for the Bianchi, so that's sorted again.
Had a few struggles along the way. Apparently last time I serviced the rear hub bearings I didn't confirm the snap ring was seated properly, so that had to be purchased and replaced, easy enough.
Next apparently the high flange hubs interfere a bit with certain cassettes. XT M750 spider was hitting the spokes. Luckily I had a spare SRAM 990 hanging from the "wall of cool bike stuff". So that's working.
I did a quick ring drive clean and lube on the CK hub, but there's a bit of drag when coasting, honestly it was that way on the Bianchi. So I think next step is full tear down, which will be new and exciting, luckily my neighbor has the tool required, but he never done it either.
Regardless, just a few quick sprints up and down the road and the bike felt great. I should have weighed the previous wheels, but apparently it was rather heavy.... I mean you'd think a wheel called the Ritchey Girder would be lighter, right?
Also have been doing a bit more research on my hunt for a Shiver SC. The Marathon S has an A-C of approx 480mm
Shiver SC 2002-2003 120mm w/ETA A2C 510mm ETA on approx 485
Shiver SC 2004-2005 100mm w/out ETA A2C of 485mm
Plus side of the 02-03 + alloy steer tube, nice & firm with ETA on
Plus side of the 04-05 is going to sag like the Marathon S giving an even lower front end when riding.
Downside, Steel steer tube = heavier.
Was hoping to get out on the bike but it's a late fire season & the air is disgusting.
