Listed as 1999, but this frame is in 2000 livery.

As far as I’m aware, it didn’t appear in the U.K. catalogues, but the seller does state limited edition Canada issue.

The frame decal suggests that it is generic Kona Cromoly, which would slip it down lower in the hierarchy compared to earlier Kilauea models. However, it does have the better forged dropouts similar to higher end steel frames – anyone know more?

If it is 21”, then suitable for the taller rider…. There you go Al

 Indeed indeed!

I little (big actually) part of me feels :( when I see what happened to the Kilauea (and the Explosif). Sure it's progress and things change - I get that - but even so, to turn from a proper racing frame to a bog standard job was just poor marketing in my opinion.

Still it's nice to see these examples, this one needs a bit of love doesn't it? I'm half tempted to have it as a reserve to the Kula-commuter I have but I promised myself that will be the last Kona MTB commuter I have (I'll get a proper road bike when it fails).

I understand they changed to the forged drop-outs in 98 to all steel hard tail models because of failures I, and it seems many others had now and back in the day. So far I've got through 3 96/97 Cinder Cone frames that all cracked on the drive side rear drop-out.
