Just in case anyone has got fed up with stripping their non grease port forks down to service them :D see below;

1,remove the adjuster from the lower leg
2,remove the 8mm allen bolt under the adjuster
3,remove the 4mm bolt from the other lower leg
4,pull up sharply on the fork crown and the lower legs should seperate
5,remove the fork seals with a sharp edged screwdriver (be careful)
6,remove the upper fork bushing from both lower legs
7,If you look on the back of the lower magnesium legs you will see two small holes in the bulge section (in pics below)They are off centre.
8,take a 1mm drill bit and drill the hole right through.(very easy to do)
9,when you have thoroughly cleaned the inside of the fork lower legs (flood them with degreaser and wash out).
10,put the upper bushing back in with a small amount of bostik behind it (a small amount :wink: ) and make sure you line up the gap in the bushing with the small hole you have drilled :D

re assemble the fork (pre greased) and when the service time comes around again just put your grease gun in the pre drilled hole and give it a few squirts,hey presto grease injection forks :D (you can use two very small screws to block the holes so no grease comes out under compression but I have never found this a problem)

As a fellow sx owner, this has been most informative, thanks.

I'm awaiting the arrival of a cheap pair in the post, so I'll have a go at this and see how it fairs on them, before attempting it on a set of forks currently in use :wink: :oops:

is that all there is to stripping them ?
what about oil quantity's ?

i have a pair of SXR's that need a going over (when i get the time)

So I dug the old girl out today, and found this............. :roll: :roll: :roll: :oops: :oops: :oops: :oops:

The sxr is a different type of fork as it has a spring in one leg only,the other being filled with oil,The 1996/98 forks had an oil cartridge in the lower part of one leg only.but the oil is the same for both year forks and your sxr as well 5 weight.If you want instructions for rebuilding your sxr tell me what year it is and I will pm you the instructions as they are in my sent box somewhere from a few weeks ago when somebody else asked me 8)
