1995 Vario No Limit downhill prototype

Unfortunately no real updates as I’ve not had any free time recently, but I did get a pic of the condition of the rear of the rear shock whilst I was sorting the Christmas lights out.

All completely original including the fixtures and bushes with no refinishing at all…pretty remarkable for a 29 year old DH bike

Had a bit of free time this morning so started to apply the decals.







I decided replace the MTB Diffusion sticker that was originally placed on the head tube



I also started to apply the sponsor decals as a homage to Francois Dolas team bike. I will be going a little “improv” on the sponsor decals as from research his bikes had varying sponsor decals / placement over the season. I may also get a period correct Grundig World Cup DH Cap d’Ail number board made.

Yes I’m thinking the Mavic decal is needed. Will get in contact with Gil to replicate it as I’ve not been able to find period correct Mavic decals in that size

So a little bit of an update on the build…

I had Retro Decals make me some correct 1995 Mavic decals and custom sized to replicate the Mavic decals on Dola’s team bike.







I’ve also started adding some sponsor decals on the swing arm.



Have decided to go with black gear and brake outer cables over the grey / silver XTR outers (that I have in stock) as it tied in with the build colour scheme better. Just awaiting a new black stem before I final fit them.

A bit of an update…

I managed to source a new stem for the build as in my opinion the original stem just looked wrong with the black seat post. The stem I sourced is an Answer ATAC quill stem with more rise than the original that makes it look a little more “DH” that I have had refinished to original “new” spec / condition in order to complement the rest of the builds condition. I’ve decided to run the stem without decals in order to keep the build cleaner. I’ve also added a few more period correct TEC anodised blue / turquoise bolts to the build for that factory look







Now I have the new stem I refitted the original bars and original ATI grips.

Now just to work out where the Hope & MTB Diffusion decals will look best in order to give a nod to Dola’s team bikes.
