1995 Marin Team FRS...Finished!

Right, update time... This site really is a great place to be... one of our members (Bren) offered to weld up the cracks in the chainstay and even suggested improvements that should help what is really a crappy piece of design... Basically he has increased the width of the pin guides by welding some polo shaped pieces of ally to the sides of the main piece.

He then machined a new wider pin to hold it altogether.

This is not just a repair, I now believe it to be better than the original. i can recommend Brens work and his comms and effort he put in mark him a true gent in my eyes...

Anyway I've now got a little work to do to make sure the pin is a snug fit and then the build should finish relatively quickly (as I'm hoping to use it for the next RB ride in wetherby in a fortnight...)

I've built the wheels up (correct Mavic rims on LX rear and WI front) and all the other bits are ready to drop straight on... Just need a decal kit and a pair of marin Lite Kevlar tyres!!

Anyway here is some pics of the repair!

Following a busy day today, the Team FRS is almost done...

Any advice on setting the spring tension on the Marin Lite canti's would be greatly appreciated...

Only jobs to do are -

1) Sort the decals, I already have a NOS head badge

2) Pull the rear wheel across slightly (the dish is not quite right)

3) set up brakes properly

Wish I'd taken pictures of the condition this bike was when I went to pick it up... it was in a pretty poor state. 75% was there and a donor IFT supplied the rest... It's now in exact catalogue spec, except for the skewers! Not sure what they used... The last pics show Brens "better than original" repair!

Anyway here's the pics, I'll post again when decalled and fully finished...
