I had a 1994 Lava Dome with a 27.2 post, it was a smooth fit, not tight at all. As the post was a Thomson it is likely to be close to nominal dimensions, unlike some.
I think 27.0 is usually right as heat distortion from welding ovalises the tube a little. When you get one that hasn't ovalised a 27.2 will fit. It's the same with 531 tube sets in road bikes - an unbrazed tube will take a 27.4 post, after fabrication it's usually 27.2.
