1993 Merlin Mountain

Brother mailed me saying he will be drop the hubs and rims off today. When we were talking about them I said 2 cross front, radial/3 cross rear, he said he said 3 cross front and rear. What a chicken, live dangerously! Kleins went radial front back then but they were rigid so probably not the best idea for this though.

Think my way makes them look that bit more "dainty" so they'll look better too.

Adding to the CNC theme is the cassette. A NOS Real Racing 11-32 8 speed, the last half is one piece, CNC'ed.

5 of the 8 sprockets have missing teeth, between 1 and 4, I assume to aid shifting. Bit strange they all don't. If it had been alternative sprockets would have made sense but it's the 14, 16 and 18 that don't. I'm sure there's a good reason.

It's nice and light at 207g but don't suppose it will last too long.

Will probably end up with SPD's but until then I'll use these. NOS Speedtraps that I really bought for my Adroit. Insides still need a wipe over.

Wonder who that is? Someone's getting back to me tomorrow about forks but thinks the steerer will be too short. Could go threaded, not that there's any threaded forks being advertised either.

Marc is it the RC35's with a rear tubular steel brace your after and what steerer length do you need? I am still thinking about putting the MXCD's on mine so the forks on my Merlin may be available with another 1" threaded steerer I have. Unsure on length right now as at work.

Hi, Don't think I'm that fussy regarding the tube/alloy brace. Was talking to my brother and we were saying threaded/quill looks neater so not against threaded either. Finding a decent, shortish quill stem might be a problem though.

The head tube is 4¼", say 108mm, so I think 180mm+ for threadless should be OK. If it's threaded I really can't remember how long it should be.

btw paulk is my brother.
