As the title states! I have this very special(ized) late-1992 Specialized S-Works M2 Team number 497/500.

This is not an imitation or 'tribute' build bike.

Size: M

The original owner purchased this in Southern Germany at the beginning of 1993. With intentions to race this bike he quickly became cautious of ruining the bike and ended up puting very light use of about 50 km on it before retiring it into a wall hanger. This bike hung in his house up until I acquired it in 2023; 30 years just chilling! The tires still have the tiny rubber hair thingies still attached to the treads!

There are two known variants: The early-made low-serial number bikes received Suntour XC components by default. This near-end-of-production bikes came with Shimano XT. Specialized was natorious for mid season brand swaps with whatever was available though this behavior is not exclusive to Specialized. Delivery of these 500 bikes began to arrive at dealers in the late fall of 1991.

The Specialized Team had Control Tech as an early sponsor of Worlds that year (pictured in Osfuthorpe's bike in the "25th Anniversary Stumpjumper Book". Later on in the racing season, the team dropped Control Tech for Zoom due to money/funding reasons. Ned Overend states in an interview that the bike on the MBS was his build for the World Championship that year and he wasn't even approached by Sugino until late 1992; then he used the Sugino Disc full time starting in 1993.

That being said, early serial number bikes in effect would have been period incorrect with a Sugino Disc. This bike for sale is a proper period correct timing to receive a Sugino Disc if you wish. Another factoid is that Ned Overend rode this bike fully rigid in the beginning of the season. So his official race bike saw several iterations throughout the season; full rigid, black Future Shock, silver Future Shock.

This bike was not orderd 'standard'. There are additional upgrades from the factory:
- Future Shock front fork (bike could be ordered rigid or suspension)
- DirectDrive Micro Cranks (175 mm)
- Sakae Low Fat MTP-129 Titanium Pedals (very light)
- DirectDrive Seatpost
- Specialized/WTB Prolong Saddle
- Specialized rim strips (one is cracked, but you can repair)
- Specialized "competition" water bottle cage
- Shimano XT "Shark Fin"
- Onza bar ends / Onza matching color stickers

There could be a few details I have missed.

The overall condition is conservatively a 9/10. The paint and stickers are original. All parts (aside from maybe the tubes) are original. There is very minute chipping on the inside of the rear drop outs due to wheel removal/installation for whatever reason. We all know these bikes shed paint if you stare at them too long, so that being said the paint is very very good for the age.

You can ride the bike at your own detriment, but this is easily a continued wall hanger example or even a bike shop, bike museum display piece if you wish.

The bike is located in Southern Germany, Konstanz 78462. Preferably, a pick up in person is ideal in all cases, but the bike is fully disassemled and boxed for shipment. Additionally, if you can arrange someone you know to come by and pick this up for you, that is fine too. I trust you all. Buyer pays actual shipping costs.

Everything stated here is to the best of my knowledge; if you think (and can prove with materail) something has been stated incorrectly please do not hesitate to PM me and I will make corrections.

Asking price: 999 Euros and this is negotiable upon buyer motivation. I am selling due to scaling down to lack of room, so no trade offers will be considered.
