Quick question about 1991 groupsets..

I'm stuck in the 70's and I am sending my pride and joy 1970's frame back to the original builder (Bob Jackson built by Kevin Sayles at Woodrup) but in the meantime for a bit of "practice" on later bikes I have bought a Moser 1991 frame....

What groupsets would be around at that time I can buy and have a go at building something from the early 90's
Thanks

Shaun

Shimano 600 ultegra perhaps? although on a moser i'd go for compagnolo but then its just a case of how much you intending to spend...if its only a bike you are going to ride whilst yours bob jackson is being sorted.

Campag went Xenon, Athena, Chorus, CDA, C Record at that stage IIRC. 6 or 7 speed Syncro levers. Xenon was pretty rubbish (painted finish) in my opinion. Athena was OK (and all I could afford), but I'm not sure how durable. Chorus was much nicer. I never got my hands on CDA or C Record.
People berate the Syncro index shifters, but I've been using them since the early 90s and they've always worked fine for me.

Alternatively, you could go Mavic (quite popular around then) or Suntour Superbe Pro (very nice indeed, but hard to come by compared to the Campag of that period).

Lots of early 90's Mosers used Shimano Exage (action/motion/sport)..

like this one :

I'm looking for these shifters for my Moser build: http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx? ... &AbsPos=12

They are 8speed.. But hard to find, and NOS very expensive..
I already have (black) 3ttt stem (no panto :() and 3ttt comptezione bars.. and some other Campagnolo (mostly athena) bits..

Maybe u can post a picture of your frame.. It will be easier to say which bits/group would fit it :)

This would be nice too: (sorry for the big pic)

Thanks for the tips :) I think I'll try for an assortment of Shimano bits and pieces....

The decals on that purple /white moser are the same as mine but my whole frame is silver fillet brazed with enough stickers to cover the flight deck of an aircraft carrier including one on the various physical properties of the metal used LOL

I'll take a couple of pics tomorrow at work (its hiding in the office while I work out a way of getting it from the car to the garage without being seen.......

I'll also post a pic of the seat post as well which has had a few cm removed from it :(

Shimano Biopace was early 90's. Some get on with it, some don't. I quite like it! Exage Action was the entry-level kit with a bluey gun-metal anodised finish.

Removed a section of the stuck seatpost today in our dental laboratory......Blimey the metal that the frame is made of is wafer thin !! No wonder it's so light :D

It's a Moser Leader from Oria tubing, the tubing is slightly ridged longitudinally, very strange.

It has had several cm of seat tube / frame removed before I got it and looking at what's left I wouldn't trust my bum on it.

Scrap :(

back on the lookout for a plaything LOL

if you want decent shimano, try 105, 600 tricolore or dura ace. i would go for 600 (current ultegra) as there are still enough bits around to create complete set and dura ace is going for silly money... i have cdale 3.0 1988 with 105 and biopace. works great but think about upgrading to 600. dual pivot brakes and better overall finish. let me know if you want some photos of complete 105 groupset
