1990 Raleigh Moonshine

Nice paint :) Understated  classy and different

like the anodised look of the rims as well.

If you dont want the pink bars I know my little girl might love em lol

She rather likes pink lol

Thanks again guys 8)

The rims are actually pretty cool...original rigida lasers anodised grey. They're not the lightest but look really nice against the frame colours..

As for the bars...well I must say that in a strictly manly way I quite like pink.. as I mentioned I'm planning to replace the faded ones with another set of...ahem..pink bars

Hopefully I can strip the thing down and clean it up this weekend :)

Okay...been busy stripping the thing down and typically got a bit OCD

I ended up taking the headset, bottom bracket and everything else apart, apart from 20 odd years of dust and old grease everything was pretty much unworn mechanically, always a pleasant surprise! The STI have now been replaced by some DX thumbies and SS7 levers that I had lying around and I've switched the heavyish bars and stem to a prestige T-bone and some pink taperlites 8)

Interestingly enough the weight of the bike as I first pictured was around 27 and a bit lbs, probably due to the smaller size although the OEM saddle and seatpost must have been another 2 lbs at least...

Hopefully I'll crack on and finish it off before the weekend :)

It's amazing how this has faded, not that it's a bad combo mind, the purple/pink looks kind of cool. A mate had one of these BITD and it was lovely deep blue and wicked neon orange, really smart until an impact with a bomb hole bent the frame.

Yep, it is a bit faded, but not too bad...there was another model in a darker blue and orange with similar spec but I can't remember the name...it will come to me sooner or later

Thought that years lightweight range went

Thunder Road
Moonshine
White Lightning

Mates Moonshine was definitely Blue/Orange and was Deore LX kitted.

Now I'm intrigued :)

Funnily enough I know the colourway you speak of there Carl, but I always thought it was something else..

Presumably there must have been another colourway offered at the time for those who were not down with the pink! I have seen one of them around where I live but never clocked the model. The only other which was part of the lightweights was the Dune Dancer IIRC but that was a model down and lower spec..

I've always been interested in this range but never managed to source a catalogue either :(

I was always after a lightweight (so nearly had the Team Edition one in 1990) but the Muddyfox thing sort of took over. There is only enough space left now for a Prestige Comp or Pro as that will be worth taking the heat from the wife for. Sadly I have let at least 3 lightweights pass me by now.
I have a pretty good idea of the High end ranges up until about 1991.
The Dune Dancer was a K2 framed model I think. There are some other interesting ones in there as well, the Shortlived (possibly due to Suntour sponsorship maybe) Ozark with Mountain LX group, that was quickly replaced with the XCD6000 equiped Thunder Road (this was repainted to make the 531 Team Edition). The 501 framed Moonrun (one up from the Mirage) which was Black and used Suntour XCM. Would love to get some catalogues.

Carl.

Thats a cool bike, friend of mine had the blue orange fade, can't remember what it was called but this looks sweet. Defo keep it full DX though, it's a greaat groupset and pretty bomb proof. If you want to lose some weight where it 's not obvious or cahnging too much how about Titanium BB, skewers, bolts and an uprated cassette?
