1985 Ridgeback XT

I'm pulling up a chair to enjoy the rest of this amazing resto as you've really committed yourself to this and i've got big respect for you doing such a top notch job of it 8) ..

But that mark…I don't know, it seems like the only thing I am looking at :P

Just kidding, excellent work, as usual!

Nice, I really like the Sakae CX cranks. I have a set in black on my Diamond Back.

Great work on restoring those, they look brilliant.

lol

The mechs were put in an ultra-sonic cleaner for a few minutes, then a couple of minutes on a polishing machine, then degreased.
Pretty good for something 30 years old.

Re:

Frames take hours!
Most of the parts of the mechs were chrome plated so your just cleaning it really but you have to be careful not to go through the chrome.

The pivot pins in the mechs polished up very well as they well all rusty.

I was kidding about the frames but i do really like the look of a well polished chrome frame as they really do look cool and yes i'm not surprised about the chrome only being thin on those bikes as they were not built with serious riding in mind .

Yes i guess that sonic bath helps cut through the worst of the rust pretty well and maybe one day i'll get to own one which would really be cool .

Re:

Chris

Now you've got this far I want to see it for real
Any chance it'll put an appearance on at Icon o Classic?

I'm sure if you opened your workshop up and sold tickets you'd be inundated with takers keen to see your work and have a go

I can't be the only one on here with serious workshop envy, mind you with my track record for involuntary amputation of perfectly good limbs it would be a ticking time bomb having free access to all those toys when ever I had some spare time

Yes, I'm taking this and the Torus. Although the list of things to do on the Torus is massive, this only needs a seatpost to complete I think.

Tickets are a good idea though...

One of the canti springs flew off the polisher and took a couple of hours to find.
Eventually it was found in the sump of a lathe covered in metal filings and grease / oil.
