1980 Carlton Pro?

Hi

I've got a 1980 Carlton that's been painted over and decalled with Olmo Competition AND Colnago Super decals - wierd because they look like their from the same decal set..? Serial number on bottom bracket is WE0001861 saying Worksop built, 1980, 1861st frame of the month/year?

Anyway, I think it might be a Pro looking at this guy's lugs http://www.flickr.com/photos/74418119@N ... 673051032/ - but would appreciate any other ideas. Sadly, tthough tthey migh have been painted over, I don't think it has campag dropouts which is worrying..

Also does anyone have a 1980 Carlton Catalogue link?

Here are some specific photos:

It also has rear rack eyelets suggesting it might not be a Pro though the guy I bought it from said he was told they were brazed on later - I'm not sure because they look pretty neat. No idea about the tubing either. I was told 653 but extremely doubtful about that.. I'm fairly sure there were no 1980s Carltons made in 653 but PLEASE correct me!

Cheers

Unfortunately I can't see any of your photos!

I have a Carlton Corsair which was available in 1980 and had rack eyelets... I'm sure some other Carlton models had them too.

I don't think Reynolds 653 existed in 1980 (653 is 753 maintubes and 531 stays/forks, I think)

Sam, Your pics address is truncated in the middle. If you can't do anything else, post the missing string so that we can insert it.

That frame looks a bit older than a Corsair at first squint.

I thought Corsair was in their line for a while anyway. It might be 1970 because they reset the date codes - 1st number, every 10 years because there was only one digit! The braze on front derailleur hanger and cable guides do indicate 80s i thought.

Could well be right, I always think of the late 1970s/early1980s version when I think of Corsair.

The brazed on bits are clearly later. The frame was rust-proofed, the extra fittings are not. The mudguard eyes are added, not even matching.

as posted above, i dont think 653 was made in the 80,s. i think the closest thing was 531 pro which was very similar :D
