1980 Carlton Pro?

The brazed on bits are clearly later. The frame was rust-proofed, the extra fittings are not. The mudguard eyes are added, not even matching.

I don't know about the hanger and cable guides though - The front derailleur hanger has the same heart in its connection piece as in the rest of the lugs and I don't see that the extra rust indicates they are later - small fiddly curves and stuff always gets cracked paint first and then rusts more because its so exposed, especially around the BB area. Also the rear stays have some pretty bad rust suggesting the 'rust-proofing' wasn't very thorough -

Thanks for the comments..

Hi Guys.... this is my first post on this forum.

If it was a Pro it would have a slotted bottom bracket.

I used to race a Pro in the 80's.

Unfortunately I can't see any of your photos!

I have a Carlton Corsair which was available in 1980 and had rack eyelets... I'm sure some other Carlton models had them too.

I don't think Reynolds 653 existed in 1980 (653 is 753 maintubes and 531 stays/forks, I think)
Hi.

653 was not a tubeset as such but a hybrid of 531 maintubes & fork and 753 stays.

653 was available from 1986...and not like(as some have suggested)531 Pro.

Roadking.
