1978 Dawes echelon 531 saved from Yarmouth tip.

Dirt Disciple
My 1978 dawes with 90's components .
Saved from being scrapped at great Yarmouth.
Someone had previously updated all the 70's components except for the brake calipers,it had obviously been someone's pride and joy but they'd fell out with it possibly due to the paint blisters. It had strange paint blisters all over it , like lines which after being stripped appeared to be acid left over from grazing. The Mark's had to be sanded off the steel using a dynafile tool.

Thank you...I love the frame . Its not high end but hand made so i couldn't see it get scrapped. I was thinking rust at first, but it seemed to flow from some of the joints so I suspected flux leftovers.

Nice! Thank you for saving it. 👍

I have been reading up on Dawes recently, and it seems to me the people at Dawes really knew what they were doing at the time. Making good bikes at a reasonable price level seems to have been their forte.

Thanks all for your positive comments.
I've had the frame powder coated.
Not quite the colour i wanted.

Only slight problem is I lacquered it and it put a brilliant shine on it. Then 2 weeks later micro cracks 😪😪😪 have appeared in the top coat. So I'm going to continue to reassemble and either live with it or wet spray it .
