    Blue collar charm

Some scrotey retrobiker will probably turn up and offer him £20... "Yeah I only want the rear tyre mate for an original spec build I'm doing on my Yo. The rest I'll toss in the scrap." 😪

Some Retrobikes passing through Bikeworkshop in Bristol

I love these rich metallic paints on mid 90s treks - looks loke the Hipsterisation Gremlins have been at work while I was away🤣

A couple of pieces I've made during the pandemic

I imagine a professional hairdryer puts out more breeze than a human operated bellows - id think you'd struggle to get over 250w out of a person! Its days of practical application are over😄 Museum piece, but better amongst the highwheelers than the Kleins😉

when will this be considered a Retrobike?

I should clarify: I was referring to the new bike buyers, not a retro resurrection. The reasons for the purchase are completely different.

    Feast your eyes!

Retro, because of rim brakes. Almost unsellable, same reason. https://ebay.us/m/oLxZe6 Oh is that a £500 jockey cage I see? 🤣 Overshadowed by the £2000 rear wheel🙄

    M950 XTR advice

I'd have a very close look before assembly, and also snug it down after a test ride, the splines in the chainset are easily damaged by careless fitters and incorrect bb splines. Xtr octalink bbs are £££ for a reason, rarity.

    M950 XTR advice

Iirc Xtr octalink isn't the same as the cheaper mtb units. If you mismatch the splines you'll ruin the chainset. It's been done many times, making an xtr m950 chainset a risky buy. Symptoms? Creaking and falling off, like square taper🤣

when will this be considered a Retrobike?

There isn't any reason for it to degrade - basically it's fabric set in epoxy. But the high end stuff is not designed to last, but be light. Consequently the fabric gets micro-tears in it through use, and weakens with age. Similarly of course the lightweight aluminium frames tend to have a...

    Today's Ride

Tonight's ride. Last night's in fact. Forgot a front light, following a ribbon of grey, but under the trees, pitchy dark! into the hedge and Brambles.. Tickticktickticktick When I got home, my wife asked me if I'd been in a fight🤣

XT hubs M778 front and M775 rear - new cones

The front axle usually wears at half the rate of the rear, so you might find a clean and grease is adequate.

What's the late 90s steel frame of choice?

The fillet brazed 853 GT psyclone is a beautiful late 90s frame, but unlikely to be under£200. GT also had some astonishing paint finishes in the early 90s that have lasted well, but Twirly for OP Looks like he's got a good'un. Quality raleigh mtbs don't command high prices, so offer...

What's the late 90s steel frame of choice?

Triple triangle adds weight and complexity, and stiffness you might not be after if you don't want aluminium. Looks great. Parallel seat stays and down tube👌

    Peugeot bottom bracket query

We sold Peugeot at this time, mid 90s, although not this model. They weren't using French on anything we sold, all 68 bsa, but the build was so basic I wouldn't be surprised if some old bbs got chucked into the box for the builders🤣 If they were making their own bb shells, they could've used...

    Blue collar charm

Here's a one- owner bike, functional quality, one owner over 30 years, used and cared for all that time. Almost like it was in the catalogue. What a rarity! https://ebay.us/m/frRuna

What don't they dress up for these days? Look at the team mammals! They aren't even racing🤣

Look whats just been invented 😉

Racks are good, but the complexities of carbon rear suspension means that if you sleep in a ditch, you'll break your frame!
