Marin 1997 Quake 9 replacement shock

It has been a while since I took mine off, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. From what I can remember, there is a pin that runs all the way through the bushes, both at the frame end and at the swingarm end. This pin is what the bolts screw into. You need to push this pin out, I used a punch and a...

Marin 1997 Quake 9 replacement shock

Re: Hi, All I can say is the eye to eye is 165mm, shock travel is about 45mm but I am not sure where you measure that from and to. I have lost the specs in a house move so that's about all I can tell you I'm afraid. I can say It does work really well, the RP23 transformed the handling of my...

Re: This will be the last time I will be able to answer this question with a yes. :-( I currently ride a Marin Quake 9 retromod, I have had it since new in 1997 and its been my main bike since. But time has finally caught up with it, and I will be replacing it with a new bike soon. I will...

Plan on Cycle Deaths and Accidents, ideas and suggestions.

Re: Plan on Cycle Deaths and Accidents, ideas and suggestion Personally speaking I wouldn't, I don't ride on roads because my commute is too far to sensibly ride everyday on a bike. I live in the country so my experience with city commuting is limited. If I did live and work in a city I...

Plan on Cycle Deaths and Accidents, ideas and suggestions.

Re: Plan on Cycle Deaths and Accidents, ideas and suggestion While technically true, we do pay road tax, because it is only applied to vehicles on the road. Vehicles not using the public roads do not have to pay, therefor it is in reality a tax to use the roads. Having said that paying road...

What Fox fork is on this Mantis???

That's an nice looking Mantis there, a nice subtle retromod job, which I really like. Can't help with the fork, other that to agree that it does look like an F series. Simon.

    DIY Paint Spraying

Re: DIY Spraying Use as fine a wet paper you can get your hands on 1200 is ok 2000-2400 is best, the colour coat will show up an imperfections you have in your primer. so get the primer as smooth as possible first. A guide coat can help, but it is most useful on flat panels, if you take of...

I'm a moderate progressive what are you?

Radicalism 88.5 Socialism 37.5 Tenderness 40.625 These scores indicate that you are a progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a liberated atheist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general. Your...

    Personal Unicorn bikes (What's yours?)

For me its been Dave Hemmings Ti Bolt for a while now. I'd love to create a replica but I think the Pink parts might be rather hard to get a hold of. Simon. Pic found on this site here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... p;t=161655

    Mag 21, air/oil?

They look in really good nick, good find. :-) They tend not to lose all the air quickly just enough to notice over about 2 weeks in my case. You just have to top them up so its not so bad, I check my tyres each time I ride, it's just one more thing to check.

    Mag 21, air/oil?

Yes you could, however I would say a track pump might not be very accurate at setting the pressures. Mine are modified so need more Air pressure than standard, but you still need to get with in 2-3 PSI. Other wise you might have a inconsistent fork, unlike modern air forks you need to keep...

    BOTM Nov 2012. Vote now!

That's all right, I assumed you meant the colour I painted it was wrong, when I had done my best to match it to the original. :-) Yeah I like the rings they match the Pink Graphics. ;-) The Stem I agree with, I'm not sure what possessed me to get it back in the day. ;-) the bike is nearly...

    Mag 21, air/oil?

Lubricate the needle valve before inserting it, it will help to prevent damage to the rubber valves and also help seal the valve, mine used to leak like crazy until I lubed the rubber valves. I just smear some fork grease on the needle valve before each insertion. Simon.
