    Shimano XTR M950 Cage Change

I remove the cage when I clean a mech. Only problem I have had with a mech was with a DX mech that the chain/jockey couldn't be kept away from the big sprocket on the cassette. Turned out I had to much spring tension, you will see there are a couple of holes you have the option of putting...

You probably have the power advantage over me, my VB is barely faster than the tredarists I slowly pass. I went to "250 Heathers" house on a B31, she hid my boots and I ended up starting the bike barefoot, my foot isn't very rigid.

So hows the hip with a kickstart? My hip has just started to get a bit iffy I walk around the length of the garden with a strimmer and my my hip hurts like ****. I haven't got my VB out and am dreading it. What if I can't kick it over! Only young blokes whinge about kicking a bike over.

    Caustic soda time

I have posted this before. The best solution strength is not a lot, strong enough to raise the temperature of cold water to warm. But If you mix it strong enougth for the water to be hot, the solution will boil when it finds some aluminium to react with; it usualy blows it self out of the tubes...

Seat post tolerance in a frame

It's a long time since I measured a post, all the ones I measured were something like .08 under. I measured a few frames and they were all oval, averaged around the nominal diam[well a marin frame I measured was almost a .1mm larger than expected]. That is measuring where the stays and top tube...

    Top pull derailleur cable

But if your cable stop is on at an angle, the angle of the cable is OK. Both my top pull frames had cable stops presumably intended for top swing mechs, but as they made top pull bottom swing mechs, I am guessing there are frames with stops at a suitable angle.

    Top pull derailleur cable

That's what I do. Found a pic of my lobster, you can see what the cable lines going to be like with the new XT mech; it gets even worse when you pull the cage out. And the not so good pic of it with a top swing mech, the cable is the line inline with the seat post.

The top pull bikes I have had were the same, think I may have even asked this question.

    UN91 re-use question

I pulled a UN91, it had felt a bit metal on metaley. After I pulled it out it felt lovely and smooth but a bit loose. I stuck it in another bike and it felt loose, the cranks could be rattled a bit, but it was lovely and smooth.

Question about Bolts for Shimano XTR V Brakes (M951)

I have some proper bolts, there is actually one on the monitor stand in front of me. At least I think it's one for the M951 brakes. I replaced the originals on the bike with turned down 6mm stainless bolts and kept the originals when I sold the bike. I kept them to go with a set of brakes. I...

    Stuck bb help

I can put quite a lot of torque on them with a 24inch breaker bar and leaning on the stays. If you donald duck the splines, the fastest way to get the BB out is probably to remove the ledge that holds the bearing, then pull the bearing out. A die grinder and slot drill or burr is the easiest...
