Full end to end gear cable housing?

Full length outer cable needs replacing sooner than short sections, and is more difficult to do so. In the short term it keeps out muck In the long term it traps it.

    Hollowtech crank removal

Octalink crank remover has a "top hat" that pops into the axle end for the tool to bear against. Iirc a well placed 5pence piece does the same job.

A lot of the damage to carbon happens when you're not riding it. It's not a great material for shared hallways, bike racks, public transport...

Giant TCR RETRO Road Bike Large Frame

Mike burrows design. Heavy. Harsh. Slightly Aero. Strong price, but it's fairly unusual looking. Not many Giant collectors out there, I do like the early tcrs.

I see quite a lot of broken ones. Aside from the style mentioned above, recently we've seen: Clean snap across the seat tube under the seatpost end. Toptube cracked along its length Downtube folding in on itself Stay failure due to damage Headtube opening out Pushfit bb falls out🤣 A...

Modern standards - I need updating!

Age: Saddle height remains constant, but the back shortens as the discs compress, and joints become less happy with stress. As a rule the bars come up and back towards you with age. But remember, 10mm is a significant step. Anyone who does bike fit and proposes a frame 2 full sizes smaller...

Modern standards - I need updating!

If you want old standards, rim brakes and narrow tyres, you can buy a top-end frame for peanuts because everyone is desperately selling them to buy disc bikes. You can barely give them away! Remember Bike Fit doesn't necessarily give you the right answer - so if you can buy the frame used...

Motorola Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra SLX 1994

Looking at the saddle height, and that you're using stis, I'd suggest you use the bar with the shortest total throw to the brake lever mount - they are all quite long It took bike designers about 10 years to realise that if you had dual control levers (rather than downtube shifters) you wanted...

    Innovations that weren't...

Cannondales (im thinking of from the early days right up to early 2000s) are extremely prone to cracking at the bottom of the seat collar slot. Overextended or undersized seatposts, saddle far back, make it almost a certainty. And larger riders increase the chance. But a cared- for frame...

Modern standards - I need updating!

I'm happy to take up anyone's "rim brakes are better" challenge. Gentle, touring braking they are indeed the same. It's the high speed emergency stop that is radically different.

Ahhh the canti rocker. Got rid of everything that was wrong with a straddle hanger, And replaced it with something offering greater complexity and Friction. Great!
