    Cable routing help

Those outer 2 need to stay the same side of the head tube because the stops are so close. That bend in the ferrules will lead to poor shifting, as well as looking awful.

    V-Brake bosses issue

I've seen a few broken bosses on 20yo Forks. A few, out of probably 10,000. The weak spot is where the boss mount joins the fork blade. So a replaceable boss could still break - the advantage would be in build quality not construction style. If one cracks, say in 2050, you could always...

    BMW

Collectable crossover factor doubles the value. Bmw/ bike. It's like the bsa parabike. A fairly common, fairly basic machine, fetches over 1k easy in reasonable nick.

    Thick as Thieves

My colleague advertised his beetle on FB, some guys came round, seemed keen - went away to "think about it" Came back in the middle of the night with a trailer. Loaded it up badly, it rolled off on the first corner into his neighbours garden. Thieves scarpered. 7am, very angry...

    Why not $10,000?

Some people are idiots. There are a lot of people online. Easy to find idiots. A lot of private stuff for sale online is speculative. A lot of it is money laundering. Got 10k from dealing? Sell a "vintage bike" for 10k, show the bank the ad, Kerching. Range rover. 🤣

    Wanted XTR front mech

The low clamp (top swing) wears fast, and its inner stop position isn't that close, so if you have an oversized seat tube and a close chainline, shifting onto the small cog is almost impossible without finesse. Also all the rear wheel crap is thrown onto it and builds up a shelf of filth. I...

    Vintage Pedal Assist

The BSA Winged Wheel was reasonably popular, and the Cyclemotor. https://www.classicmotorcycle.co.uk/bsa-cyclemotor/ I think the market was more controlled than in Europe though, and given they ended up classed as a motorised vehicle, and would need registering, you might as well just buy a moped.

    Wanted XTR front mech

The back plate is aluminium, and the chrome lifts very easily with time, wear and corrosion. This is why good condition ones are rare expensive, and rough ones are common. It's a build style shimano didn't continue.🙄 I think there's a trick to flipping top to bottom pull

    Rusty springs in new mechs!

Could it be a fake? Shimano quality control is usually perfect. Having said that, surface rust on springs might just be seen as a cosmetic issue, although seems unlikely.

Anyone have details on how the Avocet 30 cyclocomputer magnet ring works?

Do the magnets actuate a mechanical switch like the standard cateye, or are they cleverer than that? Just wondering if the sensor/ switch is at fault rather than the magnets.

    Tyres

I keep them in my humidor with the cuban cigars. (There are tyres in the shop basement that have been there since before I started, 3 decades. Cool, dark, stored flat.)

    Here’s a novelty - home made recumbent

Home- made recumbents are a thing - but this one looks good and has style. Many are an appaling hippy mess of chopped frames, kids bikes, wires and furniture. I think the pillow-drive thing is one of those wind-up radios😉, the HP sound system. Note the sturmey, lucky it's in Norfolk😁
