Hello all,
I have been an infrequent contributor here (not sure how many years), but I am trying to increase my activity (mostly for help!).
I believe I had seen this mentioned before on the "Road" forums, but I am bringing it to light here as I have seen no changes made.
The site states "Retro, Vintage & Classic Mountain & Road Bikes". Although I do have a couple older 80s mtbs, they are taken out only about 5% of the time compared to my road bikes. I primarliy joined up to get advice and help regarding road bikes, and to post an example or 2.
In the "Road" section there is regularly a "Retro Bike of the Month" competition where excellent examples of bikes from the past 100 years (less the past 25 yrs) or more are displayed in all their shiny and rusty glory, the majority of which appear to be bikes that are taken out for a spin on a regular basis and are not garage queens or wallhangers. Votes, congratulations and banter are abundant by many not even entering the competition so I know members are following the thread.
Since I usually sign out, I get the homepage upon logging in and I'm always presented with the "BotM"/"BotY", and yet not one recent road bike winner even though mtbs are represented going back nearly 1 1/2 years.
It makes perfect sense to me that the previous year's "BotY" winner would reign supreme for an entire year, as well as the "BotM" being presented for all to see for a month or 2. It seems odd though that the road bikes get zero representation even though they are designated in the site's header. I do take a look at some of the fine mtbs shown, but I do not scroll down to see what happened 3 or months prior. Do you?
Is it possible to provide recognition to the road bike winners in the same way? When first coming here I remember thinking I was on an mtb site only until I noticed the header and delved deeper into specific forums to find that there was indeed a robust road bike community and a road bike competition to boot. Amazingly, I even won (but for my photography not for a specific bike thus I show no little banner, nor care as it is just cool to participate), but I thoroughly enjoy viewing what others have submitted. So can a road bike get one panel on your homepage to represent, and help new guests (hopefully to become members) see that the site has a some active community of road bikes, as well as mtbs?
As a side note: I have found this site to be excellent; I'm on another as a member where I fear to post due to unnecessary ridicule and utterly childish remarks given the topic at hand. I rarely go there (it ends up making me retort in a bad way to the foolishness) except for about 5 members who are serious and knowledgeable and are excellent resources.
Thank you!
