Unusual Kona models or colours

That's nice and interesting. As you say, the Lana'i name did not appear until a few years later. It has '98 cable routing and decals, so I don't think it would have been made much before then. Would be interesting to see the serial number on it to confirm the year. The colour looks quite similar to the '97 Lava Dome. And specifically matched P2 forks are a nice touch, there were not many models that had that ('92 Kilauea is the only one I can think of).

It looks similar but that sparkle looks a touch more fancy. Either way, this is super cool, something brand new to the memory banks.

For colour matched forks, the 97 Kilauea SE will take some beating 👍

A resprayed U'l, I can see the original yellow from here  ;)
Ahhh I didn’t catch that, I saw they said something about it being yellow and thought it was just really really faded.

I know this is a tangent but I’m learning all this again but there’s a lana’i up on FB market place here in US I think from 2002 in Crème puff white/red color.

My Kaboom here: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/kona-kaboom-yr-2000.443147/
It's the second one I've owned, a 16", originally had 18". Irritatingly they didn't do 17. As far as I know they only ever made around 700 of them.

Nice frame, very similar to the Cindercone of the same age although a little heavier, probably as it has longer chainstays. It's still my go-to ride although my 1996 P7 feels more lively.

It was a standard DH yes. But the colour scheme is more to what I’m pointing at.

Me too! Maybe I'm just missing something glaringly obvious
