Unusual Kona models or colours

Sorry pip i actually updated the photo a few mins after posting the reply its F8060630. The F only revealed itself after i wiped it pretty vigorously 😅
Mmm, well that indicates that the frame was welded at the Fairly Works in June 1998, which is just about in keeping with the manufacturing for the following year's 1999 production - if a little early. There is however a Control Code letter missing from the middle of the Serial Number, which I cannot explain - i.e. the letter "K" in my second example.

Anyway, at 28 lbs, it certainly puts the bike out of the Caldera league, and nearer the Hahanna territory.

Thats a bit disappointing but on the bright side i would not feel too guilty in having it resprayed or powder coated to my wife's preferred colour.

I appreciate your help on this one Pip.

1997 Kona Kilauea Special Edition. This was a mid year release with the colour matched to the bomber colour. Inky a couple hundred were made for Canada and US. It's a different blue than the regular run for that year.

My Dad bought one of these off a work mate back in the 90's it was orange colour matched to z1s I have searched for years trying to find another one have you ever seen one?

1998 Kilauea's were orange, that is likely what he had
If you take a glance at the 1998 Catalogue in the Archive section, you will see that the 1998 Kilauea is Mustard Yellow.

It is constructed from Reynolds 631 tubing, which some riders claim to be a "better" ride than the Reynold 853 tubing. It will certainly be different from the Columbus Cyber Nivachrom of the 1997 Kilauea SE.

Thanks Pip, I have never actually seen one in person. Are they actually more yellow? All I have seen online look orangey to me. I guess its a fine line.

I've seen the 1998 Kilauea in person many times, and I would say that it is a strong Mustard Yellow - just like the condiment😉.

The best pictures that I have on file that show the colour are these two:
