Ok I have not managed to take the British Eagle out yet. I thought I'd better give it the once over before getting a nasty surprise on a steep descent .
1. Check the brakes and they have those safety canti straddle things...so off with the reflectors. Brakes work fine and they are adjusted...
I'm sorry but are you referring to the cantilever brale straddle wire safety device? :D
Considering your experience, you of all people should recognise the importance of the correct torque there.
I will have a ride on it today and report back. Had a long chat with the fellow I bought it from yesterday and it has basically been hung up in his garage for the last 25 years! It did look like a nice dry warm garage to be hung up in though. :)
