    Ok I have not managed to take the British Eagle out yet. I thought I'd better give it the once over before getting a nasty surprise on a steep descent . 1. Check the brakes and they have those safety canti straddle things...so off with the reflectors. Brakes work fine and they are adjusted...

    I'm sorry but are you referring to the cantilever brale straddle wire safety device? :D Considering your experience, you of all people should recognise the importance of the correct torque there.

    Those were the days though when a reflector was fitted to the frame with a nut and bolt plus no less than 4 washers.

    The owner's manual is mint! And I was going to remove the reflectors until I read this. Hmmm aesthetics vs safety.

    I will have a ride on it today and report back. Had a long chat with the fellow I bought it from yesterday and it has basically been hung up in his garage for the last 25 years! It did look like a nice dry warm garage to be hung up in though. :)
