    Marzocchi Z1 QR20 refurb

Fork is now on a bike, still need decals and to sort out the brake caliper as need longer bolts. But the colour match is very good.

    Marzocchi Z1 QR20 refurb

I put them together today. My plan was to use the stanchions off the Z1s that came on my Arrow DSS-3. This is because the crown on the QR20s had been over tightened by the previous owner, crushing the stanchions slightly making the top caps very tight. Something I know to lookout for now...

    I found my unicorn - Arrow DSS-3

He had loads of good stuff. One guy filled a van with bikes from him.

Gusset Trident 113mm ISIS BB arrived and the Race Face cranks test fitted. The chain line looks good. Still need to get the BB faced and a chain guide before final fitting.

    Marzocchi Z1 QR20 refurb

I'm very happy with the colour. It's not an exact match to the original Marzocchi orange, but it's close enough being a couple of shade darker. The finish also looks as good, if not better than the original. Not bad for a rattle can. Next up is the assembly.

    Marzocchi Z1 QR20 refurb

Having read some differing reviews for all lacquers I looked at I went to a local paint supplier and got what they recommended. I'd never heard of HB Body Pro Series C496 before but was really pleased with the results. The spray pattern was good, the mist was fine and had a nice glossy finish...

    Marzocchi Z1 QR20 refurb

3 years later and I've now started to the refurb as they will go on my Curtis SuperX so the forks on that can go on my Curtis SX24 RaceLite. These forks had quite a lot of corrosion. Ideally I would keep them with a standard finish, but the amount of sanding to remove the pitting would be far...

    Worn BB shell

I didn't think of that. Looks like 0.7mm and 1mm spacers are available.

I've removed the cranks and BB. This revealed that bolting the chain device to the pivot has caused it to wear away the BB shell. I'm wondering what my options are to fix the problem. I did get a set of wheels with Hope Bulbs laced to Mavic 729 rims which I can fit temporarily. I'm on the...

    Worn BB shell

In the picture below you may see that the bottom of the BB shell doesn't protrude as far from the concentric pivot. This due to the previous owner of my Arrow DSS-3 using a BB mounted chain device and then bolting it to the concentric BB pivot. This meant that the chain device moved with the...

    I found my unicorn - Arrow DSS-3

I said that the L&M cranks can stay, but I'm not a fan of square taper (the only cranks that have failed on me were square taper) and I'd like to lighten the back end a bit. Plus the chain line is way due to the MRP so will need a different chain guide and a shorter BB. Removing the cranks I...

    I found my unicorn - Arrow DSS-3

Done a bit of tinkering today. Put some pedals on, just some Wellgo Magnesium I had lying around. Put the head badge on, a bit more tasteful than the previous one. Swapped the forks over. Problem is I don't have a 24" wheel with 20mm hub so have to use a 26" wheel that's been sat in the...

    Retrobike resolutions 2025?

A mix bag for me, but the year isn't over yet. -finish putting together my Curtis RaceLite 24 - FAILED -finish painting and assemble my Z1 QR20 forks - Failed, although I did buy the paint -apply finishing touches to my Curtis SuperX - COMPLETED, it even won RBotM 98+ -make a start on my Kona...

    I found my unicorn - Arrow DSS-3

I have got a Marzocchi 4X fork that would suit this bike very well. Not sure about the Romic shock. I'm considering replacing with an air shock, but there's not many choices as it's 165mm eye to eye.
