The end is nigh: Kona Bikes

A Kona was one of my first proper bikes, and I still have it. I always liked the names, they were fun, different and a bit rebellious against what other brands were doing. The sloping top tube was a big selling point for me, it helped them look like dedicated mountain bikes. Other brands looked...

2004 Kona Coiler for my son

Finally given the boy his new bike and he really likes it. Once he received it I could see what was needed to make the bike fit him. The reach was fine but the bars were way too wide. I'd acquired a set of 25.4 RaceFace XC Carbon bars in a bundle of stuff I'd bought for £30. These were quite...

    ID on Hope hubs ?

I don't think Hope had laser etching in 1999 so you'd be looking for hubs with stickers on, like these.

1999 Kona Chute Hope Disc Conversion Issues

Almost looks like the mount was an afterthought as discs were gaining in popularity around that time. My 2000/01 Kona Roast has integrated disc mounts into the dropout and I have Mono Minis which fit without an issue. Hope you can work out a solution.

98+ BoTM 98+ Bike of The Month March 2024 - now taking entries

Roasted's 1998(ish) Arrow DSS Thread 'Arrow DSS project' https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/arrow-dss-project.316466/ Entering just before the deadline (was hoping to have my Curtis ready to enter) and feel we need some dirt jump representation. Arrows are quite rare, especially this side of...

State of the industry: a running thread

Rim brakes are just really big disc brakes, so makes sense that in dry conditions they'd perform well. I can't see much advantage having discs on road bikes. The rim brakes seemed adequate for the task and some of the designs made some clean looking frames. They make more sense on MTBs where...

Missed the bike of my dreams on ebay, will i find another one?

I'm in an opposite, but similar situation. I've found what I'm looking for, but it's for an obscene amount of money over 5,000 miles away. Do I bite the bullet or wait to see if something pops up closer to home, bearing in mind very few of this particular bike made it to this country? For you...

    Fun retro ride in France

Have any of you retro roadies done this event? Looks like a fun retro bike ride with wine, music vintage attire and more wine set in a gorgeous part of France. Almost like Goodwood Revival for cycling. https://www.anjou-velo-vintage.com/en/retro-rides/routes/item/authentic

    Curtis SuperX 2001

I collected the frame today. The colour I went with is Howies Blue, and I think it looks awesome. It was a choice between blue, grey, clear, and candy apple red. It's a shame that they didn't have any 'SuperX' decals. I took a few photos of the workshop decorations
