Having touched up the paint over the winter I've been riding this single speed for a few months with the original bars and stem but never really enjoyed the steering. Have now put on wider bars and slightly shorter stem and works much better for me. Has gone from 'maybe I should put slicks on it...

Thanks! Spent too long last night trying to figure it out. Looks like probably the Trainer model. Seat post bolt recessed in back of top tube rather than a quill seat post. Topic title updated.
The seat cluster does look similar to some of the aero road bikes from GT, for example the '97 and '99 Fury but I cannot find any round tubed steel frames in the catalogues that don't have the more pronounced triple triangle. Might have missed one though.
Presumably repainted as a 'dale, unusual rear drop out, internal clamp seat post? Seat cluster looks a bit Saracen but cannot see any road bikes in their catalogues of the correct era.

Not my favourite job but very satisfying to have a bike worth of parts degreased.
Hubs were not too bad so think I'll just rebuild with new balls and use them. They were full of tar like thick sticky black grease.
Headset is just about re-useable although lower seal is perishing.

Just picked up a 20" '93 Lava Dome. Drivetrain was just about rideable so took it out for a quick spin and it fits great which is good. Planning to use this mainly as a summer bike to get into shape for cyclocross season.
