PRST1 build spec sheet document??? hey new here

Hope Technology is a high end UK hub manufacturer. Very nice, but unlikely to be original equipment on your bike. The PRST-1 usually had Shimano XT or XTR equipment (including hubs) fitted. The freehub is the section of the rear hub which supports the sprockets. It has a couple of bearings...

    Seat post puzzle

If you want to be a bit more controlled and not need three hands for the job...remove the clamp bolt, reverse it, screw in through the top, with something flat in the clamp slot. This will jack the clamp open and hold it there while you push the barrel section out. All the best,

Look Fournales Disc adapter to ISO2000?

Well, Pre-ISO calipers and hubs are pretty rare these days, but don't cost much if you do find them (since they're obsolete)...usually Formula or Magura. I've seen the Fournales adapters sell for £50+, but sellers are often not clear on the ISO/non-ISO difference, so buyers might be going in a...

Look Fournales Disc adapter to ISO2000?

Since I had my fork in hand...comparisons with @just jacques pictures show that Fournales made both ISO and Pre-ISO versions of the adapter over the life of the forks. My Pre-ISO adapter has been cut by someone to work better, but it is still possible to see the differences, and identify which...

Look Fournales Disc adapter to ISO2000?

Probably correct, but better to look at the alignment of the inside faces of the dropout and the brake tab. These are the faces that the hub and brake caliper contact. You should be able to judge by comparing with my non-ISO version, viewed from underneath: Between zero and 1mm offset is...

    Frame failure experiences

This 2002 Cannondale CAAD5 came across my bench recently. Fantastically light (1400g for a 58cm road frame), but no wonder it cracked: Really poor dropout design. Stamped from 1/4" plate, sharp edges with a major x-section change and hardly any vertical thickness. That short section, only...

Look Fournales Disc adapter to ISO2000?

ISO has a 4mm offset between the face of the dropout and the inside face of the brake tab. Pre-ISO the location and diameter are the same as ISO, but have zero offset, same as the rear dropouts. There were several competing 'standards' until ISO 2000. This is why pre-1999 Marzocchi disc...

What Bike is This? - Max Glaskin & Jeremy Torr book - 1988

Yes...Andy Powell was so old school that he still used those pressed steel Campagnolo cable guide thingies: All the best,

What Bike is This? - Max Glaskin & Jeremy Torr book - 1988

Yes...Andy Powell was pretty old school. Still used those pressed steel Campagnolo cable guide thingies. He probably had 100s quietly rusting in a drawer. All the best,

What Bike is This? - Max Glaskin & Jeremy Torr book - 1988

Looks like an early Overbury's Pioneer to me 1985-7. 🤔 Very high BB and looks like the seatstays land above the top tube. One of the few bikes to use that flat-topped cast Cinelli fork crown and the elegant curved and tapered road blades. All cables on the downtube, but gears running over the...

Bespoked Manchester 2025 - 2 weeks to go

It's moved around England over the years (Bristol, London & Manchester), but has been here for a few. I've not seen any confirmation for next year, but expect it to be back at the Victoria Baths for 2026. All the best,

    7005 Head Tubes Cracking

Yes, the potential for damage is from the bursting stress caused by an overly tight press fit. This is present whether the bike is ridden or not. Best to remove the headset and fit a looser tolerance one, or adjust the fit by reaming/turning the frame/cups etc. so that the interference is in...

    7005 Head Tubes Cracking

I've not come across any specific problems with Kona Easton 7005 frames. By 96-98, Kona were a little later to the alu game than some. Others made the mistakes first...but best to measure first anyway. Make sure that the headtube bore is reamed out to the looser end of the tolerance...in an alu...

    7005 Head Tubes Cracking

A bit harsh 🙂 I'd go as far as over priced, over rated and a bit fat 🤔😀 Like seatposts or stems...they all have a simple job to do, and generally do it perfectly well. All the best,

    7005 Head Tubes Cracking

OK, it's not because of hardening of the 7005 material. That's already done and finished soon after the frame was built. Additional time barely increases tensile strength etc Manufacturers will usually carry out an artificial age cycle post-weld (Put it in an oven, 10hrs @ 150°C, or similar)...
