Yeah. There were a few that 'got it' and appreciated the retro. As it was a 'cars' event - most saw it as I'd accessoried the car with a period touch. I can see it being the other way round at the Malverns with the 2 bikes being the main attraction and the Saab as the period accessory. boy"O"boy

If you could find one - a Chris King Devolution headset would be perfect. This fits the 1 1/4" head tube but allows you to use 1 1/8" threaded steerer forks. Your quill stem would also be a 1 1/8" size. A 1 1/4" quill stem won't fit into a 1 1/8" steerer because of the internal diameter...
