Thanks Ed.
Yes. I believe they were USA built but there's some mention in my own Marin Pine Mountain Browning thread that prototypes like the one Paul Hinton is riding in the January 1991 MBUK are UK built. I've messaged Marin directly to see if they know more, but no response. I did think the...
@Fam Allen Great progress Lewis! - I've been meaning to get round to adding something here for ages.
Firstly. Thanks for the kind words on The Endeavour. It was good to meet you when I dropped it off. Looking forward to seeing what direction you take that one in.
Secondly. The Al-Mega DX...
So what about my own Kestrel MXZ?
Well, trying to finish up the Serotta Pro-flex prototype, I haven't really done anything with it but look at it since I got it!
Today was a chance to give it a proper shakedown in 'as purchased' condition. A casual 'family lap' of Draycote water followed by...
The top one is the Kestrel Rubicon from 98
The prototype had a interesting double shock set-up
The lower one is the CSX.
What about the prototype Kestrel 'Nitro' - seriously nice looking bike from the same era as the MXZ

@27motorhead - couldn't resist! Actually having those 'dream' bikes from the Freewheel Catalogue in the collection seems excessive - but seeing them all together outside of a Freewheel shop from BITD looks great!
@Chr1st0phe - that's a great looking Kestrel. Looks the part with the Suntour XC...
@JCS Good start! @27motorhead is right in the fact that the forks on #54 are from a Slingshot so technically they are not original spec and shouldn't really be included in the frame vs prototype comparison. They do look like a factory upgrade with their better tyre clearance though.
There's 2...
Thanks 😎🏆
So close....but it has to be rideable to be finished! Having a prosecco cork wedging the front mech into middle ring position won't cut it for the finish! - not far to go though! Needs some better pics too.
Thanks! - yes, it's been a hell of a journey from when I first got it from...
Hi all.
A sunny Saturday afternoon and a bit more time to progress the build.
Decals now on ✅
Cantilevers polished and installed ✅ - pleased with these as they've been salvaged from the original barn find. They had been sprayed rattle can Matt black, but underneath were the very poor...
GLWS!
I bought my own Dolomite from my Italian mate here and it was without doubt one of the best transactions I've done on Retrobike. Marco's sales are always a great experience - top quality stuff.
Unfortunately I don't need a 2nd one mate!

@JCS Yeah. It was the look of the Kestrel back then that had me sold on it. At £1795 back then, it was the stuff of dreams though. My mate at work said he paid the same price for his Escort XR3 back in '89
I agree. It still looks like it's from the future now.
Only the lack of suspension of any...
And onto the main build.. ..
The wheelset was built by myself - Araya RM17's on M730/M732 XT hubs. The tyres are the Ritchey Z-Max from the other Serotta Pro-flex. That one is now shod with a nice pair of Tiogas
Fully restored MK2 flex stem with True temper bars. 1" Shimano XT headset is...
Hi all.
Progress has been slow on the prototype. After getting all the parts back home, it's sat for a couple of weeks before I've found time to start reassembly.
First up - the MK2 Flex stem. Pleased with this one as I was able to salvage the original one from it's ratty state. Here's a...
